Beschreibung

409 is a titanium-stabilized ferritic stainless steel developed almost exclusively for automotive exhaust systems. It resists exhaust gas and atmospheric corrosion better than plain carbon steel and withstands continuous service up to about 675 °C, but its corrosion resistance is lower than 430 or 304/316L, and light surface rusting can occur, which makes it unsuitable for decorative or food-contact parts.

It's magnetic and cost-effective due to minimal nickel content, and is best suited to exhaust components, heat exchangers, and general brackets where heat resistance matters more than appearance or top-tier corrosion protection.
