Zinc alloy Zamak 5 adds about 1% copper to Zamak 3 for roughly 10% more strength and higher hardness, with reduced ductility, a good fit where more tensile performance is needed.
Zamak 5 (ZnAl4Cu1) has the same base composition as Zamak 3 plus about 1% copper, which raises strength by roughly 10% and increases hardness and corrosion resistance relative to Zamak 3, at the cost of reduced ductility and some dimensional stability. That lower ductility can affect bending, riveting, or crimping done after machining. Its recommended maximum mechanical service temperature is only about 95 °C, so it isn't suited to hot environments.
Zamak 5 is a goo choice for automotive and accessory parts needing more strength than Zamak 3.
