Magnesium Alloy AZ91D is the most widely used die-cast magnesium alloy, and it offers the best corrosion resistance in the AZ family alongside good strength-to-weight performance.

About

AZ91D is a high-purity cast magnesium-aluminum-zinc alloy (about 9% Al, 1% Zn) with tightly controlled iron, nickel, and copper content, which gives it the best corrosion resistance among common die-cast magnesium alloys, although long-term saltwater or acidic exposure still calls for a protective coating.

Both strength and creep resistance drop at elevated temperature, so it isn't suited for sustained high-heat structural loads; magnesium chips are flammable and require fire-safe machining.

The material is suitable for automotive housings, electronics enclosures, and power tool bodies.
