ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) is great for functional parts and prototypes with a need for stronger mechanical properties than PLA. ABS matches approximately 80% of the properties of injection-molded products but is rigid and inflexible, with design freedom limited due to the fused deposition modeling (FDM) printing process. The surface of an ABS model is always slightly rough due to the printing process and it can be difficult to post-process, though vapor smoothing can greatly improve its aspect.
