Commercially pure iron (often >99.5% Fe) is a soft, ductile, and magnetic metal with excellent machinability and high thermal and electrical conductivity. It is valued for its consistent magnetic properties, low carbon content, and excellent plastic deformation behavior. While not as strong as steel, pure iron offers outstanding workability, is easy to form or cut, and is frequently used in magnetic cores, scientific components, or where minimal alloying elements are required. It is prone to oxidation if not surface-treated.
