Zinc alloy Zamak 3 is the most widely used Zamak grade, offering a balanced mix of strength, ductility, and impact resistance, with better dimensional stability than higher-copper Zamak 2.
Zamak 3 (ZnAl4) is the base composition of the Zamak family, roughly 96% zinc and 4% aluminum, and the standard every other Zamak grade is compared to.
Compared to Zamak 2, it has lower strength and hardness, but better ductility, impact strength, and long-term dimensional stability. Compared to Zamak 5, it has lower strength but better elongation. It also takes plating and finishing well.
Zamak 3 is well suited to low-to-moderate-stress housings, brackets, and fittings, particularly parts that will be plated or finished.
