Zamak 2 is the strongest, hardest, and most wear-resistant grade in the Zamak family, thanks to its high copper content, although this comes at the cost of lower ductility than other Zamak grades.
Zamak 2 (ZnAl4Cu3) has the highest copper content of the common Zamak grades (~2.5-3.3%), giving it the greatest strength, hardness, and wear resistance in the family, along with strong creep resistance for parts under sustained load.
This comes at a significant trade-off: Elongation is notably lower than Zamak 3 or 5, the alloy becomes more brittle over time, and it's more prone to dimensional changes (shrinkage) with aging than lower-copper grades. It also offers good vibration damping.
Zamak 2 is a good choice for gears, cams, bearings, and long-term load-bearing mechanical parts where wear resistance matters more than ductility.
