Tool Steel D6 ships annealed and machinable, and can then be hardened into a high-chromium cold-work steel with added tungsten for better through-hardening.
D6 (X210CrW12) is supplied annealed. Its roughly 12% chromium content, combined with a tungsten addition that distinguishes it from the closely related D3 grade, gives it excellent wear resistance, better through-hardening, and less distortion during heat treatment.
Tool steel D6 is well suited to high-wear cold-work tooling, dies, and punches where dimensional stability through hardening matters as much as wear resistance.
