Tool steel D3 ships annealed and machinable, and can then be hardened into a high-carbon, high-chromium cold-work steel with excellent wear resistance.
D3 (X210Cr12) is a high-carbon (~2.1%), high-chromium (~12%) cold-work tool steel, closely related to D2 but without D2's molybdenum and vanadium refinement, which gives it comparable hardness but notably lower toughness. This makes it well suited to applications prioritizing wear resistance over impact resistance.
Like other D-series grades, it's supplied annealed for machining before hardening.
Tool steel D3 is a good option for wear-resistant cutting tools, blanking dies, and forming tools where abrasive wear dominates and impact risk is low.
