About

CNC machined Steel 1215 is a free-machining low-carbon steel specifically designed for high-speed machining and precision manufacturing. Known for its exceptional machinability, the material allows for efficient production, excellent surface finish quality, and reliable dimensional accuracy, making it well suited for high-volume and complex CNC-machined components.

The material’s high sulfur content improves chip breaking and reduces tool wear, enabling faster machining speeds and consistent results. Parts produced in Steel 1215 typically exhibit a clean, uniform metallic appearance with fine machining marks and sharp, well-defined features that support tight tolerances and repeatable performance.

Steel 1215 provides moderate strength and hardness but lower ductility and weldability compared to other carbon steels. It offers limited corrosion resistance and is commonly treated with protective coatings such as plating, painting, or black oxide finishing when used in exposed environments.

Typical applications include fasteners, fittings, bushings, shafts, pins, and precision mechanical components where machinability, cost efficiency, and dimensional accuracy are more important than high structural strength or corrosion resistance.
