Material

Stainless Steel 304L (1.4307)

Stainless steel 304L is a low-carbon variant of 304, engineered to resist sensitization during welding at a slight cost to strength. This makes it the preferred choice for welded assemblies and processing equipment.

About

Stainless steel 304L is a version of the popular 304 grade made specifically to hold up better when welded. It resists a type of corrosion that can otherwise develop around weld seams over time.

This reliability comes at the cost of slightly lower strength than standard 304, though it remains a strong, durable material for most applications. Corrosion resistance is otherwise the same as 304, including the same limitation in salty, marine environments, where 316 is the better choice.

Stainless steel 304L is well suited to welded tanks, piping, and processing equipment in food, beverage, and chemical industries.
