Duplex Stainless Steel 2205 combines roughly double the yield strength of standard austenitic grades with excellent resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.

About

2205 is a duplex (mixed austenite-ferrite) stainless steel with high chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content, giving it a Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN) around 33-35 – well above 316L – and yield strength roughly twice that of standard austenitic grades. This allows thinner, lighter parts under the same load.

Stainless Steel 2025 isn't recommended for continuous use above ~300 °C, where toughness drops sharply, and it needs higher forming forces than austenitic grades. It is more suitable for marine hardware, chemical processing components, and oil & gas fittings exposed to chlorides.
