About

2.4600 (Alloy B-3 or Hastelloy B-3) is a nickel-molybdenum alloy (about 29% molybdenum) with the highest resistance of any nickel alloy, shared with B-2, to hydrochloric acid and other reducing media, and better thermal stability than B-2.

It performs poorly in oxidizing conditions, where ferric or cupric salts can cause rapid failure, and, like other nickel alloys, it work-hardens during machining.

Nickel alloy 2.4600 is well suited to chemical-process equipment handling hydrochloric, sulfuric, or acetic acid in non-oxidizing service.
