About

AZ31B is a wrought magnesium-aluminum-zinc alloy (about 3% Al, 1% Zn), widely regarded as the most machinable magnesium grade – it produces clean, manageable chips at high cutting speeds with good ductility that helps parts withstand fixturing stress without cracking.

While corrosion resistance is decent in dry conditions, it needs a protective coating for humid, saltwater, or acidic exposure. Magnesium chips are flammable and require fire-safe machining practices. It is well suited to aerospace brackets, camera/laptop housings, and lightweight structural components.
