Carbon steel C45 is a medium-carbon, non-alloy steel with moderate strength, higher than that of lower-carbon grades. It is commonly used for shafts, axles, spindles, studs and general engineering components.
Carbon steel C45 is a medium-carbon (0.42–0.50%), non-alloy steel. It offers moderate tensile strength, higher than lower-carbon grades, for parts that need more strength than mild steel but not an alloy steel.
It is most commonly supplied untreated or normalized and can be hardened by quenching and tempering or by flame or induction hardening, though through-hardening is limited to smaller sections. Its weldability is lower than that of mild steel.
Typical parts include shafts, axles, spindles, studs and automotive and general engineering components.
