Aluminum 5454 is a non-heat-treatable aluminum-magnesium alloy with very good corrosion resistance and moderate strength, and it is chosen over higher-magnesium marine alloys for tanks and vessels that run warm.
Aluminum 5454 (AW-5454) is a non-heat-treatable aluminum-magnesium alloy whose lower magnesium content (about 2.4–3.0%) avoids the heat-related corrosion cracking that limits higher-magnesium alloys, such as 5086, so it suits sustained warm service. It keeps most of its strength at 100 °C and resists seawater and chemicals well.
Aluminum 5454 is a good option for pressure vessels, tanks, and marine or chemical equipment.
