Aluminum 5086 is a non-heat-treatable aluminum-magnesium alloy with excellent seawater corrosion resistance and good weldability, and is widely used for marine hulls but limited to cooler service temperatures.
Aluminum 5086 (AW-5086) is a non-heat-treatable aluminum-magnesium alloy with about 3.5–4.5% magnesium, which gives it excellent seawater corrosion resistance, moderate strength, and good weldability.
With prolonged heat exposure it becomes prone to stress corrosion cracking, so sustained service is commonly limited to about 65°C, and 5454 is the better choice for warm environments.
Aluminum 5086 is well suited to boat hulls, marine structures, and vehicle armor.
