About

Alloy 42 (4J42) or Nilo 42 (Fe-42Ni) offers good formability, solderability, and weldability, plus reasonable oxidation resistance in standard service. Unlike the cobalt-containing Kovar (4J29), Alloy 42 contains no cobalt, giving it a cost advantage where its slightly different expansion match is acceptable.

It is a good choice for IC lead frames, transistor housings, and electron tube seals.
