Aluminum 7075 is a high-strength, heat-treatable alloy from the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu series, known for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and superior fatigue resistance. With typical tensile strengths exceeding 500 MPa (T6 temper), it offers mechanical performance comparable to some steels, making it ideal for critical structural applications. Despite its lower corrosion resistance compared to 5xxx and 6xxx alloys, it maintains dimensional stability and excellent machinability in tempered conditions, especially T6 and T73. 7075 is commonly used in aerospace, motorsports, defense, and high-performance mechanical components where strength, stiffness, and weight savings are paramount. Due to its reduced weldability and corrosion resistance, it is often reserved for parts with high static or cyclic loading where surface treatments can be applied as needed.
